#roommates #birthdays
Birthdays are always fun to celebrate, but there's something extra special about celebrating a roommate's birthday. Last weekend my roommates and I got to celebrate together for Bethany's birthday. It was on a beautiful rooftop on the Upper East Side with a black & white theme. Everyone, except the guests of honor, wore black and white. And we got our first roommate picture! Still so excited and thankful to live with these girls. I hope someone has another birthday soon...

scenes from the weekend
This weekend was a fun one! It was very busy with lots of fun things going on, and now I'm having to take a deep breath to take on this Monday. Sometimes the weekends wear me out more than the work week. But with summer here and lots of fun things to celebrate, I think I can handle that!
On Friday afternoon, I spent some time at the Great Lawn in Central Park before heading to my fave italian spot, Carmines, for dinner with some friends, which turned into a spontaneous birthday celebration for Nichole. Saturday, Brendan and I went down to the Big Apple BBQ Festival (another post on that) and then to Brooklyn Heights for a friend's graduation party. Sunday we went to a wedding shower for some friends (Brendan's first, which he loved) and then ended with dinner at my UWS neighb-fave Jacob's Pickles. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the beginning of summer weekends. Ah, my favorite time of year is finally here.

mr. president was here!
Not only was he in New York City today, he was on my BLOCK! It was a spectacle, for sure...but pretty neat thinking about the president being right outside in my neighborhood!
crowd waiting to catch a glimpse
just a few of the police barricades to close the street
what I assume to be the president's motorcade!
the street entirely blocked off with the police force. (this is before the sanitation trucks full of sand arrived)
Read more info about the reason for his visit on My Upper West blog.

uws women's christmas party

A little blurry, but I love how the tree is shining in the background & the bokeh effect.

Last Tuesday night, all of the Redeemer women's fellowship groups joined together for a festive "Dirty Santa" Christmas party. It was great having the three groups together. And, I walked away with two new Essie nail colors, so it wasn't too dirty. Very thankful for all of these girls in my life!

with love, in honor
This is the first time in 26 years that my granddad and I haven't celebrated our birthdays together. To help ease the abruptness of that transition, I'm celebrating in a new way this year: in Africa! I doubt this will be a yearly tradition but I did think it the perfect way to celebrate this time.
Plus, without GG's ever-changing math formula to help me out this year, I'm not even sure how old I'm turning...something like 26 maybe? (yikes.)

who knew
I was celebrating Corduroy Appreciation Day yesterday and I didn't even know it! Thanks LA for the tip.

more celebrations
This weekend for Brendan's birthday his parents made a quick trip down to NYC. It was fun getting to catch up with them over dinner on Saturday and brunch on Sunday. We went to a delicious french restaurant on Saturday night called Raoul's, and all of us got the exact same thing: steak (it was their specialty)! Brunch on Sunday at Le Monde (for Brendan's actual birthday) was terrific too. It was a fun time celebrating with the whole crew.
They brought this dome out and attempted to sing 'happy birthday' to B in french, spanish and english.
However, we never quite figured out exactly what this dome was...

cheers to the birthday boy!
...not one, but two birthdays of special people today! B and I had a fun day (which consisted of at least 4 hours of him watching the Patriots vs Giants game and me browsing Pinterest, which were both perfect for the first dark Sunday afternoon after daylight savings ended yesterday!) celebrating with his family, hanging out and, lastly, eating dinner, above. Cheers to you on your birthday,
b-stud!
the birthday girl
happy 8th birthday sweet McKay! this is the adorable little birthday girl right on her big day today. I wish I was there to see her, but so very thankful for camera phones.

the big 6-0
Today is a special day because someone in my family is turning 60!! My dad passed that milestone over a year ago, and now it's my mom's turn! I hope she has a wonderful day filled with lots of hugs, happy birthday's and hi-fives from those around her. I wish I was there to celebrate too!

brooklyn farmacy
One of the stops on our adventure for Katherine's birthday celebration was a soda fountain called Brooklyn Farmacy. It was a relatively new restaurant that was made to feel old-fashioned with "soda jerks" who prepared homemade soda, delicious sundaes and everything else you can imagine that would be at a soda fountain. Even with the commute, I would definitely go back! Thanks for choosing such a fun birthday celebration spot, K!

birthday celebrations: kat
As I mentioned on Friday, we celebrated for Katherine's birthday. And we celebrated big. We had a full night in Brooklyn with delicious pizza and the best sundaes you've ever tasted at an old-fashioned soda fountain.
And this is just the beginning of the pictures! Robyn recently got a new camera that she so generously let me play with...those pics are coming soon!
Happy 26 birthday Katarina!

happy birthday(s)
Today I'm wishing the happiest of birthdays to my favorite set of quadruplets, my roommate Katherine and her 3 womb-mates! (You can also check out her sister Quinn's blog here.) We're going out to celebrate for dinner with pizza and dessert in Brooklyn, and I'm only wishing that the three other siblings could join, too. Maybe next year we'll get them all here in the Big Apple for the occasion.
Also, it's my older brother Brent's birthday today!
[It must be a good day for birthdays. I think so.]

years gone by
3 of them, to be exact. And where did all of that time go?! I've almost been out of college as long as I was in. Doesn't seem possible.

800th post!
I meant to do this way back at 500, but I guess I forgot. I can't believe this is my 800th post!! I never thought blogging would have kept my interest when I started this blog way back when as an idea LeeAnne gave me in November 2007 to make a simple countdown until I moved back to New York City.

congrats to my new favorite Dr.!
...actually my favorite THREE doctors: Mary Lindsey, Courtney and Rose Lynn! I got the pleasure of experiencing the first year of pharmacy school with these three while I was finishing up my silly old undergraduate degree at Auburn (and when I say "experiencing the first year of pharmacy school" I simply mean I lived in Auburn at the time and so did they). I was pretty excited when I graduated from Auburn after 4 grueling years of college. But I have to say, my excitement for these three actually rivaled my own excitement for myself. Congratulations Drs Newlin, Green and Farmer!!!

"a royal wedding on a friday, a Noble wedding on a saturday"
My friends Kyo and Tim (Noble) are getting married today! I've known them both almost as long as I've been living in New York and they have been two great friends over the last few years. They're getting married in the beautiful Alder Manor in Yonkers, NY, and I can't wait to watch them say I Do! The wedding is sure to be a blast, everything always is with these two!
